Education and Appointments:

Prof. Baodong Chen is an experienced researcher in soil ecology. He was awarded with JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers and Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers, and selected for “Hundred Talent Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009. Under the support from several national research projects, he worked on stress physiology and ecology of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis for 20 years since his postgraduate studies. He has unraveled the underlying mechanisms for the protective effects of mycorrhizal symbiosis on host plants against heavy metal contaminations; revealed the reciprocity between host plant and fungal symbiont under drought stress, and for the first time provided molecular evidences for water transport by AM fungi; characterized the responses of AM fungal community to environmental changes and anthropogenic disturbance in the farming-pastoral ectone of northern China, and supported the ecological importance of AM fungi in degraded ecosystems. Up to date, he has published more than 80 SCI-indexed research papers. He is currently on editorial boards of Mycorrhiza, Pedobiologia, Acta Ecologia Sinica, Chinese Journal of Plant Ecology and Chinese Journal of Ecology.
